

Frank Taylor Sr. aka Sweet Man, 86, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on April 2, 1939 in Pace, Mississippi to the late John Taylor and Velma Loggin Taylor, and was raised in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee.
Frank was a retired Veteran of the US Army proudly serving his country for over 20 years. He served 13 months in the Vietnam War with the 34th Engineer Battalion, Company B as a combat engineer building QL-13 in areas such as Lai Khe & Phu Loi. Frank married the love of his life, Ki Sun in 1966, and together the couple had 3 children. After retiring from the Army, he was an Engineer Equipment Operator for the 12th Civil Engineering Squadron at Randolph AFB where he worked for 27 years.
He was a family man, also considered a “Jack of All Trades,” as he was an expert at anything he did. From cooking to carpentry, as an engineer he could make or build anything. He appreciated the arts and music, indulged in reading books, keeping up with current events, and his newspaper, especially the comics section. He was a photographer, and loved history, astronomy, and sci-fi, for he was a self proclaimed “Trekkie”. He enjoyed movies and sports, specifically basketball, football, and a good boxing match. He found satisfaction in gardening, the outdoors, nature, and fishing. He also loved his lotto tickets and scratch offs, but most of all, he loved his family.
Preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth; his parents John and Velma Taylor; his brothers Johnny, David, Leroy, and James Taylor; his sisters Jesse Rule. Pearl Taylor, Bertha Palmer, Mildred Banks, and Clemeteen Giden.
Survived by his loving wife of over 60 years Ki Sun; his son Frank Jr.; his daughter Mary; his grand daughters Raven and Destiny; and their respective partners; his sister Marie Finnie, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026 from 10:00am to 12:15pm at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, Texas; followed by a service at 1:00pm with full military honors where he will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
