

Frank R. Valdez was born on February 5, 1928 and passed asway on November 17, 2020 at the age of 92. He served in U.S. Navy during WWII as a Radio Operator and later became a Telegrapher for the Union Pacific Railroad at Ellsworth, Kansas. He attended Trinity University and received a BS degree in journalism from Trinity University. He worked as a writer, editor and columnist for the Kelly Observer in the Office of Public Affairs at the San Antonio ALC KELLY AIR FORCE BASE. During his last year he was assigned to the Office of History to assist in the writing of the book ‘Pictorial History of Kelly AFB 1917-1980’. It was from this position that he retired in 1983 after 33 years of civil service.
He was married to his high school sweetheart Elsa Hodge for 66 years who predeceased him. Also predeceased by his parents, Jose and Socorro Valdez; his son, Frank Hodge Valdez; his infant granddaughter, Vikki Faith Gonzales; and his siblings, Ernest, Arthur (Mary), and Joe (Virginia).
He is survived by his daughters, Anne Marie Gonzales (Victor), and Sylvia Greene; and son, David Hodge Valdez (Debbie). Also, survived by his granddaughter, Nikki Hope Lee (Edward); and his grandsons, Philip Michael Gonzales (Claudia), Andrew James Gonzales, Corey Valdez (Melody), and Cameron; his great-grandchildren, Ryan Matthew and Gabriella Gonzales; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Because of the Pandemic there will be a viewing at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave. San Antonio, Texas, 78212 on Sunday, December 6, 2020, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. There will be a private family graveside service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
