
Franklin E. Hicks was born on October 2, 1920 and died peacefully on March 25, 2004 following a brief illness. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High and the University of Texas at Austin. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Franklin married the love of his life, Martha Bussa Hicks, on July 10, 1948, she died on August 28, 1989.
Franklin was a life-long Methodist and a very devoted member of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, giving freely of his time, talent and treasures. He was also a member of Alamo Kiwanis Club. Franklin was passionate about his volunteer work at North East Baptist Hospital where he touched many lives working for 13 years in the admitting area.
His career in the food brokerage and restaurant businesses was very satisfying and well suited his outgoing personality. Franklin retired in 1985 to enjoy his new grandson.
Franklin is preceded in death by his wife Martha Bussa Hicks. He is survived by his son, Franklin Craig Hicks; daughter and son-in-law, Helen Hicks Groos and Gus J. Groos, III; and much adored grandson, William Penniman Groos, II. In addition, he is survived by a host of friends including his special friend, Gloria Gouger Massey.
