He was born on March 12, 1919 in San Antonio to Fred B. and Concepcion Rodriguez. He married Frances Kathryn Weiss on Feb. 22, 1948, in San Antonio, and they were blessed with three sons, Fred Gary, Steven and Mark.
He worked at the Bexar County Courthouse for many years, first in the County Auditor's Office, where he met Frances, then in the County Clerk's Office. He later worked for the Education Service Center, Region 20, in San Antonio, retiring in 1981 after 14 years.
Fred loved spending time with his family, whether around the dinner table, with his wife and growing children every evening, or at big family gatherings where he shared in good-natured teasing and lots of laughter with his in-laws, nieces and nephews. When his grandsons came along, he took great pride and joy in them and cherished their "together time."
He was an avid fisherman and among the happiest times in his life were those combining both of his favorites: going fishing with his sons at his side.
Fred and Frances lived in San Antonio for many years, later moving to the Austin area to be close to family. They are members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austin and previously belonged to Concordia Lutheran Church in San Antonio, for more than 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Manuel, Edward and Samuel Rodriguez and a sister, Lillian Vidal.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances K. Rodriguez of Cedar Park, Texas; sons, Fred Gary Rodriguez and wife, Jill of Austin, Texas, Steven Rodriguez and wife, Linda of Arlington, Texas and Mark Rodriguez and wife, Barbara of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Ryan Rodriguez and Eric Rodriguez; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the kind staff of Christopher House Hospice in Austin.
