Fred was a graduate of the business school of the University of Texas in Austin and was a lifelong Longhorn. Fred began his career in Houston, Texas at Hess Oil where he witnessed the great Houston Ship Channel fire of 1959. He moved on to work for many years at Mead Corporation, first in Dallas, Texas and then as their Regional Manager in St. Joseph, Missouri.
After his career with Mead, Fred returned to Texas to make his home in New Braunfels. He soon gave up on retirement and returned to work at Wal-Mart in the sporting goods department. Fred loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Fred devoted many years to the Boy Scouts with three treks through Philmont Scout Ranch as well as holding multiple leadership roles. Six of his progeny went on to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.
In addition to scouting, Fred devoted his personal time to service. He was President of the St. Joseph, Missouri Chamber of Commerce; a deacon in his church, a teacher at his local community college, Chairman of the Heartland Health System in St. Joseph; a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary where he was a District Governor. While in St. Joseph, Fred also achieved his Masters in Business Administration and he attended the MIT Sloan School of Management. Somehow, he still found time to run and work out almost every day. Fred's family will always remember his keen insight into competitive sports. He left us surrounded by those he loved.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Northeast Methodist Hospital for the extraordinary care that Fred received.
