

Fred was born in San Antonio, TX on June 26, 1965, third child and only son of Emma (Resendez) and Antonio DeLeon. Fred spent his childhood and schooling years very closely knit with his adoring parents, two older sisters, Maria and Julie, and younger sister, Melissa. In 1984, Fred married his loving wife who survives him, Alma (Lopez) Woods; daughter of Rosa Lopez and the late Pedro R. Lopez. After committing to be a devoted and loyal family man, Frederick joined the United States Air Force where he would serve his country for 27 years until his death. During his years in the Armed Forces, Fred and Alma would be stationed firstly in Aurora, Colorado and then Las Vegas, Nevada where their one and only son, Grantham A. Woods, would be born in April of 1988. In 1993, Fred and his young family would be stationed by coincidence home to San Antonio where he retired from Active Duty and joined the Air Force Reserves.
Throughout his life, Fred always had his priorities set straight. He followed God and stayed faithful until his last breath. He treasured his wife, children, including foster daughter Natasha Carl, and extended family very much doing everything in his ability to provide for them even after death. Fred loved his church and will be remembered for his extensive involvement in many ministries especially Children's Ministry and sharing his dramatic and powerful singing voice in Music Ministry. Fred shared many of his other talents and gifts with so many lives that he encounter. Fred was a crafty and intelligent "Mr. Fix-It". He is often recalled, too, for his outstanding cooking, grilling, and baking skills. Fred liked eating good foods as much as he did making them. He enjoyed traveling with friends and family to various places in the United States and was always prepared to take a fishing trip.
No one will forget the unique personality and highly respected qualities that Fred possessed. His willingness and compassion to reach out to someone in need or effort to gather a group for a celebration speaks volumes to the man Frederick was in his life. Those who had the privilege of knowing him know that he will not be soon forgotten.
His memory with live on by all of those who survived him including wife, Alma, son, Grantham, and foster daughter, Natasha. Also by his parents, Emma and Antonio DeLeon; sisters, Maria (T.C.) Segovia and her husband John, Julie Woods, and Melissa (DeLeon) Sanchez and her husband Rudy; mother-in-law, Rosa Lopez; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Atkins and her husband Jim, and Veronica Saldana and her husband Daniel; nieces and nephews, John Thomas (J.T.) and Matthew Segovia, Philip, Andrew and Peter Atkins, Brian, Jasmine and Megan Saldana, and Nichelle Cunningham. Likewise by his closest friends Cindy and Luz Enriquez, Thomas and Jana Martinez, Eloisa Garza, Norma and Jesse Tovar and Patricio and Anna Gonzalez. And of course his two cherished dogs, Kane and Heath. Greeting Fred to his final destination in glory is his grandparents, Alejandro and Anita Resendez, father-in-law, Pedro Lopez, close friend, Sylvia Acevedo, and pets, Kitkat and Snickers.
Memorial Services for SMSGT Woods will be on Thursday evening, June 25, 2015, at Fortress Church 7760 Prue Rd, San Antonio, TX 78249. Viewing will begin at 5pm followed by the service at 7pm. The family asks in honor of Fred's wishes to wear yellow or bright colors and military personal may wear BDUs. Burial will continue the next day, Friday, June 26, 2015, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Families may meet at the gate at 9:30 am and the ceremony will being at 10:15 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fortress Church.
