Fritz Bohne III, age 85, passed away, eight days shy of his 86th birthday. Born in San Antonio, Texas, on October 24, 1940, to Fritz and Lillie Bohne, he lived a remarkable life defined by service, dedication, and a love for his family.
On November 18, 1961, Fritz married Wanda Wiatt Bohne, whom he met at Brackenridge High School. Together, they built a legacy that included three children, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, as well as the many extended family members.
Fritz earned his accounting degree from Texas Lutheran University and pursued graduate studies in criminal justice at George Washington University. He served seven years as a Special Agent with the United States Air Force Office of Special Investigation(OSI) in Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada and Rapid City, South Dakota.
He proudly achieved his childhood dream of serving as an FBI agent for 25 years in Mobile, AL, Washington, D.C and San Antonio, TX. In Texas, he worked some of the most memorable criminal investigations in Texas, including the Kerrville Slave Ranch case, the Branch Davidians in Waco and numerous bank robberies, murders and kidnappings. He was proud to serve as the sniper on the FBI swat team.
Following FBI retirement, he taught three years as an adjunct professor in criminal justice and then seven years as the City of Helotes Police Chief, continuing his commitment to protecting and serving his community.
He was passionate about cooking and hosting grand holiday gatherings for the family, extended family and many, many friends. If you visited him, you would find him on his tractor, gator, or working on his fruit trees, blackberry orvegetable gardens. He delighted in loudly cheering for our children’s volleyball, soccer, football, softball, and baseball games. He attended graduations, weddings, and birthdays until the very end. On Sunday mornings, Fritz could often be found driving the golf cart at church, greeting everyone with his familiar smile.
Fritz is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, Wanda Wiatt Bohne, and their three children and families:
-Their oldest daughter, Ronda Galm, and her husband, Garland, have three children: Kelsey Gaines, her husband, Taylor, and their daughter, Harper; Jacob, his wife, Jaimie, and their daughter, Maisie; and Zachary, his wife, Ashley, and their daughters, Hazel and Skylar.
-Their middle daughter, Kimberly Klubnik, and her husband, Tod, have four children: Carson, Riley, Reed, and Cade, who is married to Macey.
-Their son, David Bohne, and his wife, Cathy, have two children: Kendall, her husband, Taylor Kloepfer, and Weston.
He is also survived by his sister, Marie Schaper, and her husband, Victor, and many cousins.
Fritz's legacy lives on through the generations of family he loved, the colleagues who served alongside him, the community he protected, and the countless people whose lives he touched.
