

Garland was born on June 11, 1934, to Tom and Lula Kreger of Weinert, Texas. He was an accomplished and career driven man who continued to learn and grow as an individual, husband and father. He was a hardworking man who wanted the best for his children and pushed them to succeed in life. In his career, he became a manager at multiple companies such as Foremost Dairies and H-E-B. He retired from H-E-B after 26 years. Garland earned the title of Certified Plant Engineer through the association for facilities engineering.
He had many passions including rebuilding tractors, Model T cars and working with the Masonic Lodge. Garland had a calling and love for being a Free Mason. He was a practicing Free Mason for 57 years and continued to attend meetings and functions until January of 2025. Garland also had a passion for training, mentoring and instructing new members. In his time with Masonic Lodge, Garland earned the title of Past Master twice, once in 1981 to 1982 and again in 1996 to 1997. Garland was also a member of the Army Lodge 1105, the Scottish Rite, The Knights of Templar and the Shriners.
Garland was an outgoing man who loved to talk to people and never met a stranger. He had the ability to make you feel like you knew him for years after just a few minutes.
Garland married the love of his life, Dorthey Higgins Kreger on March 4, 1954. Together, in 71 years of marriage, they have two children, Linda Kreger-Moore (James) and Jerry Kreger. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Rachel Moore-DeLeon and Stephanie Moore-Gibson. He also has four great-grandchildren and three half-sisters.
A visitation for Garland will be held at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home on Friday March 21st from 5-8 pm with funeral services to be held the following day Saturday March 22nd at 11 am.
