Garry Dean Boytos was born on March 13, 1961, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Garry passed away unexpectedly on November 15, 2025, at the age of 64. A longtime resident of the San Antonio and Austin, TX area, he and his wife, along with their 2 daughters settled in Helotes, TX, calling it home.
Garry was the beloved son, and youngest child of John and Pam Boytos, who moved their family to Texas while his father served in the military when Garry and his 3 sisters were young children.
Garry built a long and remarkable career at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, serving as the Director of Business Technology Auxiliary Services for nearly 18 years. Garry’s persistence and dedication, creativity, and continuous drive led to groundbreaking milestones in his field, earning him the admiration of colleagues at UT Health San Antonio, UTSA, the University of Texas at Austin, and countless business associates who all benefited from his remarkable innovations and share their gratitude. Garry’s leadership not only transformed the departments he directed but introduced modern and efficient methods, raising the standards across the institutions he served.
Garry is survived by his wife of almost 20 years, Megan Cruz- Boytos, Children: Zachary Garret Boytos, Gabriella Linae Boytos, and Giuliana Lucero Boytos, Sisters: Denise Crawford (Pete Crawford), Debra Stack (Patrick Stack) and Karen Laub and many nieces and nephews; Mother-in Law, Viola Cruz-Garza (Robert Garza); Brother-in-law, William Cruz (Felicia Rivera Cruz) and Godson, Jackson James Cruz of Rowlett, TX. Garry’s family would not be complete without his loyal shih-tzu companion, Loki, who held a very special place in his heart. Garry is preceded in death by his father, John Boytos, and his mother, Pamela Palmer Boytos, Father-in-law, Rene William Cruz, and Brother-in-Law, Justin Elliott Cruz.
Garry’s passions were as vibrant, bold and loud as his personality. Garry, along with wife Megan, was very much involved with the O’Conner High School Cheer Team being that their daughter Gabriella is the Varsity Cheer Captain, adored watching Giuliana perform with the O’Connor High School Pep Squad during football game halftime shows, and greatly enjoyed watching her play volleyball during her middle school years. Garry always made his love and support for his daughters, along with their teammates, the parents and the entire O’Connor Spirit Family apparent with his many long-winded, passionate speeches and his humorous personality. His absence will be terribly felt by all those who grew to know, understand, and love him through their interactions with him and his perpetual support of the cheer team and OC Spirit Organization.
Garry loved his 70’s and 80’s rock music, traveling, fast cars and riding motorcycles. His enthusiasm for life was infectious, inspiring those around him to embrace every moment. Whether he was restoring his classic, sunset orange, 1970 Mach 1 Mustang, sharing old photos of him skiing in New Mexico back in his younger years with his long-time best friend, Jon (Jack) Kasper, or sharing his favorite songs on long car rides with his 2 daughters. Endless classic rock songs were soon memorized by Gabriella and Giuliana, enabling them to all sing aloud together.
Garry made so many people happy with his adventurous and spontaneous spirit and created memories for all those that knew and loved him that will endure in our hearts forever. This is just the beginning of Garry’s story. Please feel free to share your memories, pictures, and stories of Garry, as we proudly honor him and celebrate a life well lived and deeply cherished. Garry will never be forgotten, and his bold essence will live on through his family and friends forever.
