Born October 10, 1953, passed away suddenly on August 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of his blended family.
He was a devoted husband to his wife of 18 years, Susan, who was the light of his life.
In addition to his wife, he leaves 2 sons, Jonathan and Jason (Jamie), a brother, Greg (Linda), niece, Micaela and nephew, Liam. Stepdaughters Jill (Stafford) and Sarah (Jerry). Grandchildren Noah, Braxton, Bellamie, Celeste, Dalton (Jenna), Dylan, Ford, Langston, Corbin, Madison (John). Great-Grandchildren Soleia, Neyland, Andy, Emery, and John VII.
To those who knew him, Gary was so much more than a husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a friend, a mentor, a coach, a confidant, a team member, and someone whose presence could make life a little better simply by being there. He gave his family memories that will be carried forward for generations.
He retired as a Major after 20 years in the Air Force and then became a teacher and counselor in the Texas Prison System for the next 25 years before retiring for the second time.
He will be remembered for his love, his humor, his guidance, and the countless moments—both big and small—that made him such an important part of the lives of those around him.
Gary leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and who will miss him more than words can express. His legacy lives on through all the lessons, stories, laughter, and love he left with them.
Though he is no longer with us, he will never truly be gone. He will live on in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to call him husband, brother, Dad, Uncle, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, and friend.
Public Visitation will be held at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 N Loop 1604 E., San Antonio, Texas 78232, on August 25, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at Sunset North Funeral Home on August 25, 2026, at 6:00 pm.
