Gary Wayne Rine, of San Antonio, Texas, was born on June 23, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas to Joseph E. Rine and Wilma Mary Chloe Wiley Rine. He passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faithful service to his country, his church, and those who knew and loved him dearly.
Gary proudly served in the United States Air Force for eight years, including service in Thailand during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. His military service reflected his deep sense of duty and commitment to others. He was also a participant in the Million Veteran Program, contributing to research that will benefit future generations of veterans.
A man of enduring faith, Gary earned an Associate Degree in Practical Theology from Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas, Texas. He was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio, where he faithfully served as a Deacon and was an active part of the church community for many years.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph E. Rine and Wilma Mary Chloe Wiley Rine.
He is survived by his beloved cousins: Bertha May La Salle of Independence, Kansas; Florence Jenkins Huser of Fredonia, Kansas, whom he lovingly considered a sister; Karen La Salle Knox of Independence, Kansas; and Judean Feldman of Framingham, Massachusetts. He will also be remembered fondly by his extended family, church family, fellow veterans, and many friends whose lives were touched by his kindness, faith, and generosity.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 9:00 a.m. on August 14, 2026 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
A Memorial Service will follow at First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio at 11:00 a.m.
