Gene Allen Miller

After graduating from Ottawa University (Ottawa, KS), he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, later retiring from the USMCR as a Lt. Colonel. He went on to earn a Masters of Science degree from Fort Hays State University, in Hays, KS. He then worked for several years in Dallas, TX where he was the Financial Aid Officer for the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. He then returned to his Alma Mater to serve as Dean of Admissions.

Later, Gene was a financial aid consultant and developer of computer programs for the cosmetology industry. "Coach Miller" was a mentor to the many young men and women on the Lake Highlands youth soccer teams (Wolves and Roadrunners) that he coached and he led both teams to many championships. Gene was an accomplished private pilot and he cherished the many hours he spent "slipping the surly bonds of Earth" with his son in N5659T. He was a member of Cornerstone Church where he was a Bible study leader.

He is survived by his wife, Alice O. Miller; children, John Leonard Miller of Minot, ND, Mary Ruth Johnson of Coppell, TX, Camilo Tagle, IV of San Diego, CA, Johnnie Santos of Lansing, KS and Leticia Latham of San Antonio, TX; brother, David Leonard Miller of Sante Fe, TX; sisters, Julie Wylie of Albuquerque, NM and Mary Jane Torres of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, David Allen Johnson, Rachel Elizabeth Johnson, Joshua Tagle, Jonathan Lee Tagle, Jodi Tagle, Daniel Santos, Jr., Ruben Camilo Martinez, Catherine Macy Santos, David Mason Santos and Lola Alicia Latham.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at the Cornerstone Church Vada Hagee Chapel.
