George C. Allen, Jr.

George C. Allen Jr. of San Antonio died August 23, 2024, at age 89. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. September 4 at Laurel Heights United Methodist Church in San Antonio with burial at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston at a later date.

George was born the only child of George C. and Velma Wallace Allen on July 15, 1935, in Mexia, Texas. In 1938 the family moved to Marlin, Texas, when George's father was transferred. George enjoyed a wonderful childhood there, started school and attended Marlin schools until his father was transferred in 1950 to Jacksonville, Texas, when George was a high school freshman. He graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1953.

He attended the University of Texas in Austin, graduating in 1957 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. After serving in the United States Army, he was employed by Woodley Petroleum Co. in Madisonville. When Woodley was purchased by Pure Oil Company, George was transferred to Victoria, Texas. In 1960 the office was moved to Bellaire, Texas, and several years later Pure was merged into Union Oil Company of California from which George retired in 1990.

In 1999 George met Bryan Saldana, and they enjoyed a wonderful life together. After George retired, he started working with stained glass and made many pieces for friends and family. He was especially fond of his cousin Mary Ellen Webb’s roast and brown gravy and plum jelly and Bryan’s red velvet cake -- and he looked forward to going out with friends for enchiladas.

George’s father, George Sr., died in 1971 and his mother, Velma, passed away in 2007 at the age of 100 years, 8 months.

Survivors include Bryan and first cousins Dorothy Helen Stringer, Martha Rhynes, and Lottie Eubank, and many other cousins as well.
