

George John Carson, 79, of San Antonio, Texas, entered rest peacefully Sunday, March 27, 2016, in his home surrounded by his family. Born on November 12, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas, son of John and Sophie (Couloheris) Carson.
A graduate of Texas Military Institute High School in 1954, he played defensive and offensive guard with an outstanding football team - only one loss in two years. He graduated from Texas A&M University, Class of 1958, with a Bachelor of Science in Geophysics. He proudly served in the Corps of Cadets, a member of Company B Engineers and participated in the San Antonio A&M Club. George loved his alma mater.
Following graduation, he was employed with United Geophysical, a drilling company, completing geophysical work and living in Louisiana, North Dakota, California, Montana, Wyoming, and the Appalachians. In 1963, George received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law, where he was a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity.
He began his law career with Morrison, Dittmar, Dahlgren, and Kaine downtown in the Milam Building. He was Board Certified in Oil, Gas, and Mineral Law and specialized in Wills-Trusts-Probate, and Family Law. He was admitted to practice in the U.S. and Texas Supreme Courts, Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, Texas Southern and Western District Bankruptcy Courts. In 2013, George celebrated his 50th anniversary as a practicing attorney with the State Bar of Texas.
George was involved in his community serving in various leadership positions. He served as President of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in 1967 and 1968, past President of the San Antonio Junior Bar Association, member of the Order of the Alamo, San Antonio German Club, Petroleum Club of San Antonio, and American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association.
His passions were his family, his legal practice, Texas Aggie football, and his homeland of Greece. In November 1972, he married the former Georgia Penelope Williams of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.
George is survived by his loving wife, Georgia; two sons, Dr. John George Carson and his wife Heather and Lt Philip George Carson, USN; daughter, Penelope Carson Yanus and her husband Brian; two brothers, Chris Carson of San Antonio and Paul Carson of Houston.
The Trisagion Memorial service will be held at 7:00pm on Friday, April 1 at Porter Loring Mortuary downtown.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00am Saturday, April 2 at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 2504 North St. Mary's Street. Burial will follow at Mission South Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions in memory of George John Carson may be made to Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church. George's father was a founding member of the Church in 1926.
George's wisdom, kindness, and humor will be missed tremendously.
