The first half of his career saw his growth as a bank officer with major banks in Wisconsin and Texas. By the mid-1980s, he’d settled in San Antonio and changed course, serving as a business consultant for the next 22 years. He worked with City of San Antonio’s economic development offices, various SBA programs, and the UTSA Small Business Development Center during the Kelly AFB transition.
In 2000, he found a new pursuit that would bring him much joy, joining the volunteer docent program at Mission Concepcion. Thus began 5,063 hours of service spanning 20 years with the volunteer program. He loved the missions and their history, meeting people, and sharing knowledge. His independent research is credited with identifying the solar illuminations at Mission Concepción in the modern era.
He was an amazing and devoted caregiver for Marilyn, his wife of 62 years.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, and his brother, Frank; and is survived by sons, Scott (and Suma), Buck (and Jade), Burke (and Suzie), and grandson Eric.
