Born on June 30, 1958, in San Antonio, Texas, George lived a life defined by generosity and deep devotion to his family.
George was the devoted husband of Diana Cox-Gonzales, the love of his life. Throughout the 40 years of marriage they shared, he loved her fiercely and together they raised three wonderful children. He was a proud and loving father to Jessica Martinez, Stefanie Franco, and Samuel Gonzales, and a deeply involved grandfather to William, Thomas, Carson, and his new baby granddaughter, Emily. He was also a cherished father-in-law to David Franco, who he cared for as one of his own. George took great pride in providing for his family and was especially proud to have put all of his children through college, supporting them as they each earned advanced degrees in their fields of interest.
George spent his entire career in government service, retiring from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). He was deeply proud of the service that allowed him to dedicate his professional life to protecting others with integrity and commitment.
Above all, George loved being “Grandpa.” He was actively involved in their lives, showing up for them and caring for them through any and every circumstance. He proudly volunteered at his grandsons’ school through the WatchDOGs (Dads of Great Students) program, a role that meant a great deal to him and reflected his protective nature. His involvement positively impacted the campus, culminating in recognition in the school’s newsletter, an honor which made him especially proud.
George will be remembered for his unconditional generosity, steady presence, and unwavering dedication to the people he loved.
