George is survived by his wife of 19 years, Kristen Link; son George and Kim Link and their children Tyler, James and Clayton; son Michael and Kristin Link and their children Austin and Shelby; and son Nicholas Link. He is also survived by his brothers Mike and Laura Link; Jim and Terri Link, and his sisters Liz and John Minne and Catherine Link and husband Gary Green; also aunts and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George F Link Sr. and Virginia Rives Link.
George will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was fortunate enough to have many interests, careers and passions in his life. He had an early love of flying small aircraft which was also a passion shared by his dad. At one time he flew for La Posada Airways and as he came and went through San Antonio watched the Tower of the Americas being raised for the 1968 World's Fair. He also worked in Dallas for Braniff Airlines, receiving the bodies of those that bravely served in Vietnam. When he moved his family to Austin, he wanted to attend the University of Texas to earn his bachelor's degree in Business. While going to school he ran the first ever Schlotzsky's deli on South Congress St. He graduated from UT in 1974.
When he moved back to Laredo he started his own business in the oil field, Crystal Well Services. The oilfield led him to follow his father into the retail propane business.
In the early 90's George moved to San Antonio where he owned and operated The Convention Link, a small exclusive convention company on the Riverwalk. George had a myriad of other interests and occupations in San Antonio including owning a two way radio communications business and a travel agency with his wife. His last occupation was with a service provider affiliated with Home Depot stores in San Antonio, Austin, and Victoria.
George touched many lives over the course of his business career and truly enjoyed every unique person and different opportunity that he encountered.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions are made on his behalf to the Episcopal Church of Reconciliation. These contributions will be used specifically at George's request to continue to maintain and beautify the church's courtyard. This area holds a special significance because it has hosted George's son's wedding for Michael and Kristin, his own renewal of vows ceremony to wife Kristen, and the baptism of his two youngest grandchildren Austin and Shelby Link. In the memorial part of the courtyard, some of George's remains will be left so that he can continue to be a part of this most welcoming area of respite that has played such a large part in recent celebrations.
A memorial service in celebration of George's life will be held Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 1pm with reception to follow at the Episcopal Church of Reconciliation, 8900 Starcrest, San Antonio, TX 78217.
