A pleasure to have known him. I enjoyed his down to earth attitude and humor. Sharing our common battle with cancer was also very moving for me. Thanks for all you gave with your music. I'm sure you'll still be looking in on the Jam's and singing along. A peaceful rest my friend.

I never knew George's family, but his presence at the San Pedro at Jackson-Keller Grady's jam was well known and well received, as well as at other jams. He was also with us on stage at the Texas Folkfife Festival. He liked to play and sing Hank Williams songs, especially the slow ones like I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry. I would follow along on my fiddle one of several instrumeents that I play. He was quite adept on strumming the guitar, both the 6 and 4-string kind. He was a good friend and musician. His "empty chair" will be missed for a long time to come. George: Take care and best wishes in your new heavenly home. I hope and plan to see you again someday. I played Pony League Baseball with George back in '54-'55, and we both belonged to the same rifle club for years. My sincerest condolonces go out to his entire family. I have all of you in my thoughts and prayers in this difficult time.

Rodney and I attended Edgewood High school back in the fifties. In 1954 I was a senior and Rodney was a sophmore. Rodney always struck me as a good guy. Recently, we saw each other again at Henry and Betty Garcia's 50th anniversary party at Los Patios. We only had a moment to talk, but he invited be to come and hear "them" play since we both had guitar and singing in common. Unfortunately, I didn't get a schedule or his phone #. I watched the papers and stuff hoping to get a hint of where he played. 
Sadly, we never connected again, so Rodney, blessings on you and your family and maybe we will get to jam together later on. "Go Rest High on That Mountain"

I am truly sad for your loss but we both know that he is in paradise now. And probably enjoying it. George was a very special man and I know you have so many great memories. Please take care of yourself. Love, tammy

George's courage and attitude of living life to the fullest was an inspiration to all. I enjoyed his conversation and presence at the jams and know he will be missed by all. We can only be comforted in knowing he's having a great time jamming in heaven with all the great musicians who went before him. Prayers and deepest condolences to all the family.

My brothers and I grew up down the street from the McKeens. We use to play ball, fort and even house. I was the only girl in the neighborhood. Have many fond memories of Rodney and his brothers. You all will be in my prayers.

I met George about 2 yrs ago, it was my pleasure to meet him. His wife Vicki was my supervisor. Love you both. Psalms 23

I met George at the Grady Jam sessions - I will sorely miss his presence in the future. Although I didn't know George for very long, I greatly admired his courage, determination, acceptance, and faith as he chose to live life as he battled the cancer. I will miss his quiet, calm, gentle nature, but I am happy for him that he is free and singing and playing with the angels this very day! I thank God that he shared George with us for a time.

Dear McKeen family, 
I'm sorry to hear of George's passing. He was a close friend of mine, and was a great help in me getting to the jam sessions at Grady's. We talked about the old time music, our faith, and our childhood memories. I Thank God for blessing us with such a great man as George. I'm happy to know that I will see him again when I reach Heaven's gates.

I was part of the Grady #4 music group that met and played evry Tuesday night. George was an integral part of the group and will be missed both because of his skills and his one day at a time attitude. We will not ever forget his musical abilities and his friendship and kindness for all that were there on those Tuesday nights. His influence went way beyond the daily time of living and he will be missed by all. May God bless him and the rest of the family. Tresure his memory for what he did and the influences he had on the people around him.

George was a member of the Genealogical Society of Kendall County and one of our students in an advanced genealogy course last spring. We did not know him very long, but quickly learned to appreciate him and will miss him. Our deepest sympathy goes to his family and close friends.

George was a loyal friend. I can remember our weekly sessions playing gospel music and as the list got longer, he contributed more. I can even remember how excited he was when he first met Vicki. Vicki brought the light and joy to his eyes and I am glad they shared many years. Yes, George is up there with a guitar singing and spreading the WORD. We will miss you, George.

I only had the chance to meet George briefly one day when he and Vicki came to bless our new home with their presence. Right away I knew that he had a wonderful and loving heart and I truly felt blessed in having met him. George will always be an example in my life for courage, determination, and grace.

I can only imagine the wonderful harmonies in that bluegrass jam session he's got going on in heaven now!
