

George Milton Luhn, Jr, age 92, of San Antonio died on Monday, July 6, 2026. He was born on November 23, 1933, in Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father George Milton Luhn, Sr., his mother Mary Elizabeth (Bettye) Luhn, his wife Hope Jourdin Luhn, and a son George Milton Luhn, III. He is survived by his brother, Graham B. Luhn of Houston; daughter, Laura Willis Luhn of Los Angeles, California; stepsons, Brian Hoffman (and his wife Mitzi) of Houston, and Eric Hoffman of San Antonio; grandchildren, Caroline Rechsteiner (and husband Erik) of Encino, California, George Hoffman (and wife Elena) of Redwood City, California, and Louise Vollmer (and husband Alex) of San Antonio; great grandchildren, George Edward Rechsteiner, Margot Elizabeth Rechsteiner, and Edward “Eddie” Eric Hoffman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
At six weeks of age, George’s family moved to San Antonio. George became a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church, serving over the years as an acolyte, usher, and greeter. He attended Alamo Heights High School, the University of Texas, and Southern Methodist University. He married Hope Jourdin Hoffman in June 1957. George worked in the insurance and financial planning business for sixty-two years and was well known throughout the San Antonio community for his warm relationships with friends, co-workers and clients. George was a multi-year member of the Million Dollar Roundtable, was one of the original investors involved in bringing the Dallas Chaparrals to San Antonio in 1973 (where they became the San Antonio Spurs) and was a member of the boards of the National Bank of Commerce and the San Antonio Metro YMCA. George was a member of numerous business, fraternal, and alumni organizations including the SAE Fraternity at the University of Texas, the San Antonio Life Underwriters Association (50-year awardee), the San Antonio Country Club, the Argyle, the German Club, Conopus Club, Quarterback Club, UT Alumni Booster and member of the UT Chancellor’s Council, and was a lifetime member of the UT Longhorn Foundation. George was an avid golfer and loved all sports. He attended the Belmont Stakes horse race for more than thirty years and was especially passionate about the Texas Longhorns, the San Antonio Spurs, and the St. Louis Cardinals. He and his wife, Hope, enjoyed traveling and took many trips to New York City and New Orleans.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 510 Belknap Place, San Antonio, Texas 78212. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church or the charity of your choice.
