George was a man of intelligence, adventure, and love, born on September 7, 1939, in Corpus Christi, TX. His life was a testament to his enduring commitment to family, work, and his passions.
George moved to San Antonio in 1960 to attend St. Mary’s University. His academic journey culminated with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence, a degree that paved the way for his remarkable career as a lifelong entrepreneur. He was a man who thrived on innovation and was always on the cusp of a new idea. His entrepreneurial spirit was not just a career, but a calling that he pursued with relentless energy and enthusiasm. He co-founded Lancer Corporation in 1967 with his brother, Jud Schroeder. Together they created a business that started with just 3 employees and grew into a global leader in the beverage equipment industry. His legacy lives on at Schroeder Metal Technologies, which he co-founded with his son, George Schroeder Jr, who carries on the company with the same determination and enthusiasm.
Beyond his professional endeavors, George was an avid bird hunter and outdoorsman. He found joy in the natural beauty of Texas, especially spending time at the family ranch. His passion for antique cars was more than a hobby; it was a bridge to the past and an expression of his appreciation for craftsmanship and design. George's green thumb was evident in his love for gardening and landscaping, creating spaces of tranquility and beauty for his family and friends to enjoy.
Family was the cornerstone of George's life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Judith Ann Schroeder, and their children: Suzanne Schroeder and her husband John Archer, Julie Fouillet and her husband Laurent Fouillet, and George Schroeder Jr. and his wife Heather Schroeder. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Max Throop, Eli Throop, Elliot Fouillet, and Jack Schroeder, who will carry forward the values and lessons he imparted; a firm handshake, keep your eye on the ball, and always be a gentleman.
A proud, tall Texan through and through, George's presence was as grand and warm as the state he called home. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were touched by his generous heart.
As we bid farewell to George F. Schroeder, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, marked by a profound commitment to his loved ones and an unwavering zest for life. His memory will be cherished, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps. He was truly a man who lived his life with absolutely no regrets.
