George Arthur Severance Jr.

He was born on December 24,1939, in Santa Monica, California, the son of George Arthur and Margaret Davidson Severance. He graduated from Virgil Central School in 1958 and married Mary Helen Kohne on September 29, 1962 in Dryden, New York. She preceded him in death on September 27, 2011.

George dedicated his life to his family and loved being ‘Opie’ to his grandsons, attending church, Spurs games and Sub Vet Reunions. George served in the US Navy, and after retirement from service, he worked for the US Postal Service.

He is survived by his two sons: Andrew Burton Severance (Libby) of Ft. Worth, TX and Matthew Bryon Severance (Laura) of Dallas, TX; two grandsons, Duncan Andrew Severance and Joseph Mathias Severance; his sister, Sandy Barton of San Antonio; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

His family finds peace in the knowledge that George is now in the arms of our Heavenly Father. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 10:30am at Fort Sam Houston, and a memorial service will be held afterwards at Wayside Chapel, March 28th at 1:00pm.
