On 11 September 2026, George passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. George was born in Austin, TX to Florine and Carroll Vaughn. He lived in both Lubbock and El Paso, where he graduated from Austin High. He attended Texas Tech earning a degree in Architecture.
George Vaughn loved the Lord first and foremost, he deeply loved his family, church family, clients, bird hunting and architecture.
Growing up, it was hard to go anywhere without someone knowing who he was, whether through BSF, church, or business. As his children we witnessed how well loved he was by clients, fellow worshipers, and a multitude of friends.
George encouraged and prayed for others. He believed in the power of the Holy Spirit as his counselor and friend and wanted to share that with others, especially those hurting. He’d experienced loss in his life including his younger brother and the loss of his beloved wife, Carol, to cancer nearly 20 years ago.
He was an architect in San Antonio for over 50 years. He and Carol moved here in 1972 when he joined Ken Rehler Architects. George and Carol joined Sunset Ridge Church of Christ and spent over 30 years.
In 1975, RVBK Architects sprung forth designing much of the cityscape of San Antonio and continues in its 54th year to do exceptional work across Texas as RVK Architects.
In early 2000, George and Carol became church members at Oak Hills Church, with George becoming an elder and Carol leading Mentoring Mom‘s ministry. Upon her death in 2008, George grieved a beloved wife and best friend of nearly 40 years.
God so graciously brought Carolyn into his life after meeting through Bible Study Fellowship. They married in 2010 and lived a life of faith, adventure, deep love and overwhelming joy.
George was a proud Papa to Cole, Brittan, and Carsen Vaughn and Cade Barone. George is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his son Greg and wife Summer and his daughter Shelly.
As his family, we are so grateful for his never-ending wisdom, corny dad jokes and his absolute singularly focused love of food.
George repeatedly stated how gracious God was for giving him two incredible, godly wives. Both Carol and Carolyn were faithful, godly women who loved him well and brought endless joy. George always said that the most important decision you’ll ever make in life (besides following Jesus Christ) is who you marry. He made exceptional choices both times.
As his children, we couldn’t’t have asked for a sweeter partner for him after our mom’s passing.
George lived a life completely devoted to Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and everything else was second to that…but because he did, everything else was so much better for it.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Interment will follow the service at Mission Burial Park North. Those who desire may make a memorial contribution to Bible Study Fellowship or Geneva School of Boerne, designating the Vaughn Memorial fund.
