George Wesch, Jr., a respected business leader, cherished community member, and avid outdoorsman, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 6, 2024, at the age of 88. He was born on March 14, 1935, in San Antonio, Texas to Julia and George Wesch, Sr.
In 1980, George founded Mission City Container, a company that would grow under his leadership to become a cornerstone of the packaging industry in Texas. His visionary approach, combined with a relentless work ethic, propelled the company to great heights, earning respect and admiration from peers and competitors alike. George was not just a boss; he was a mentor and a friend to his employees, always encouraging them to strive for excellence and integrity in their work.
George's commitment to his community was equally impressive. A lifetime Rotarian, he embodied the organization's values of service above self, dedicating countless hours to local and international projects that aimed to improve the lives of others. His passion for making a difference inspired many to join him in his efforts to give back. His leadership extended to serving as the President of the San Antonio Executive Association, where he played a pivotal role in fostering a network of professionals committed to business excellence and mutual support.
As an avid golfer, fisherman, and hunter, George found joy in the great outdoors. He cherished the moments spent on the golf course, fishing at the lake, and the thrill of hunting. However, it was atop his bulldozer, working on his land and raising his cattle, where George felt most at peace.
He is preceded in death by parents; sister, Carolyn Reed; and wife of 60 years, Ada B. Wesch. George is survived by his son, Joe Wesch, Sr. and his wife, Rose; his daughter, Joan Wesch-Begia and her husband, Larry; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandsons; 3 brothers; 2 sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews, and a community of friends.
The family will receive friends at Porter Loring Mortuary North from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2024, what would have been George’s 89th birthday.
