George Henry Wyckoff, Jr., 91, affectionately known as ‘Opa’, was granted his angel wings on Dec. 3, 2023, at his home in Texas, surrounded by his children. Born June 8, 1932 to George and Evelyn (Stewart) Wyckoff in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he enjoyed a long and adventurous life.
George was a devoted husband and father who, together with the love of his life, Dawn, created a strong foundation of family that will be his legacy for generations. He lived with passion and a mischievous twinkle in his eye, never missing an opportunity to bring a smile to those around him.
His long and distinguished military career ended when George retired as a Colonel in the United States Army Veterinary Corps. After retirement, he remained active in his community and brought the “Magic of Christmas” to life as he lived the role of Santa all year long.
George’s unfailing love, wisdom and generosity will be greatly missed and he will long be remembered with gratitude and respect. George is preceded in death by his wife, Dawn, his infant son, Scott, and his sister, Lynn Miller. He is survived by his son, Grant and four daughters, Wendy, Tammy, Meloni, and Debbie, his sister, Diana Lewis, and brother, Jim Wyckoff as well as 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren (and one on the way).
His generosity continues even beyond this life as his pacemaker will be donated to be used for a dog in need. What an awesome way for a veterinarian to serve the animals he loved.
Dad, we love you more today than yesterday, but not as much as tomorrow!
