Our beloved mother, Georgine Anderson Barr, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 31, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. “Jeanne” was born on February 19, 1940 in Woodbury, Minnesota and celebrated her 81st birthday this year. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill Barr; parents Louis and Dorothy Fritz; brothers Francis Fritz, Robert Fritz, Richard Fritz and Joseph Fritz; and sister Patricia Fullerton.

Jeanne is survived by her three children, Christine Lopez (Daniel), Elizabeth Ricks (Philip), and Julie McCoy (Carmel); five grandchildren, Nicole Martinez (Mia), Katherine Betts (Dylan), Maggie Lopez, Philip Ricks III and Claire Jauregui; sister Audrey Cooper (Richard); and brother Gregory Fritz.

Her family believed deeply in the Catholic faith and she was very involved in her church growing up. Jeanne attended St. Joseph’s Academy in St. Paul, Minnesota which fostered her faith in God and shaped her character as a loving, kind and caring person. She married her high school sweetheart, Clark Anderson, in 1958 and had three daughters together: Chris, Beth & Julie. She moved from Minnesota to Texas in 1972 and called San Antonio home for many years.

As sometimes happens, Jeanne and Clark’s marriage ended but she found love again and married Bill Barr in 1989. Jeanne and Bill left San Antonio and made their new home in Canyon Lake, Texas where they lived until Bill passed away in 2012. She later moved back to San Antonio where she could be closer to her daughters.

Jeanne loved being a “stay at home” mom, wife and homemaker. She loved cooking, baking and decorating her house and she was great at doing them all. Jeanne loved to decorate her house for every holiday, but especially for Christmas. She had amazing holiday decorations everywhere you looked and a Christmas tree in just about every room. Her family and friends loved to come over and see her beautifully decorated house each Christmas. It was a wonderful tradition, especially for her children and grandchildren.

She loved arts & crafts and did everything creative you can imagine including knitting, sewing, needlepoint, embroidery, ceramics, scrapbooking and refinishing furniture. Jeanne loved antiques and collectibles of all kinds. She collected many, many things including antique toys, coffee pots, quilts and furniture as well as Coca Cola, Campbell’s Soup Kids and Hummel collectibles. Her home was like a museum and she took great pride in showing off all of her historical treasures.

Jeanne loved taking pictures and collecting photos of her family. Her house was full of photos and they were everywhere. She never tired of looking at them and showing off her family to everyone who came to visit.

Her greatest joy, besides her three daughters, were her five grandchildren: Nicole, Katie, Maggie, Philip and Claire. She loved spending time with them and spoiling them as most grandmas do. She was known by her grandchildren as “Grammy” and she loved each one of them dearly.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother who took such joy in being with her family. She made time to celebrate every holiday and birthday and made every special occasion “extra” special.

Jeanne was strong in her Catholic faith and trusted in Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She enjoyed a beautiful, full and happy life and knew that God had truly blessed her. Jeanne was loved and cherished by her family and friends and will be missed by them all.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 9:00am to 11:00am followed by funeral service at 11:00am in the chapel at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas, 78218. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to BeeHive Homes of Crownridge, 6919 Camp Bullis Road, San Antonio, Texas 78256, whose staff cared for our mom like she was their own.
