Geraldine Phyllis Mills went to heaven on March 20, 2014 to be with her beloved husband of over 50 years, Major Joseph Ross Mills (USAFR) who preceded her in death. She was born Geraldine Phyllis Stanton in Altus, Oklahoma to John and Ruby Stanton on May 21, 1921. Her older brother Johnny Stanton also preceded her in death. Mrs. Mills is survived by her brother Dr. Thomas Stanton and sister Mrs. Judy Tradiff; Dr. Ross Mills her son and Dr. Peggy Mills daughter in law, daughter Debrah Mohan and son in law Tom Mohan, and youngest son Bill Mills; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She also left behind many nieces and nephews. Jerry as she was known to her family and friends, graduated from Altus High School having prefect attendance where she designed and made her own clothes, played bugle in the Marching Band and violin and excelled at freehand drawing. She attended Oklahoma Baptist University where she studied interior design. Her and husband Joe's studies were interrupted in 1942 by World War II. As a military wife in the years following the war, she was always supportive of Joe's military career and ready to do what was needed when it was time to move on to the next assignment. Her favorite assignment was Hickam Field on Oahu, Hawaii where she learned hula dancing and honed her golf game. She received a first place for her 4th of July float design at Kindley AFB, Bermuda in 1961 for the local parade. After military retirement, she joined and played in Kelly AFB, Lackland AFB and San Antonio City Ladies Golf Leagues. Jerry was a stay-at-home Mother who dedicated most her time to raising her three children and volunteering to help disadvantaged children. She was a room-mother for her three children baking many home made goods for schools. She was a Scout Assistant for all three children and capable of processing a whole deer and all kinds of game harvested by Dad during hunting season. She was devoted to building an independent spirit and guiding all her children on the right path in life. She was loved by all who knew her and will be truly missed. A memorial service will be celebrated at 9:00 A.M. Friday, May 16, 2014 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Bandera Road with a graveside service to follow at 10:30 A.M. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery
