

Geraldine Kay Smith Shelton, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, age 69, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2014 in San Antonio. Born in Austin, Texas she was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State College where she met her future husband, Sam, who shared her interest in Theater which became a lifetime activity for the two of them. She went on to earn advanced degrees in English at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks and Mount Vernon College, Washington, DC. A retired Professor of English at Prince George's Community College in Maryland and teacher of English as a second language, she loved to travel and learn of other cultures. During her career, she spent a year in the Peoples Republic of China and a year in Poland teaching English. Fascinated with people and cultures, she traveled to every continent but Africa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Billie Lou Smith and her sister, Cecilia Hellstrom. Geraldine is survived by her husband of 47 years, Sam White Shelton; daughter, Michelle Schiebel and husband, Keith; son, Timothy S. Shelton; grandson, Nathan Schiebel; brother, Leon Smith; sisters, Beverley Rowe and Glenna Davis.
