

Gilbert retired after 35 years of service with VIA Metropolitan Transit. He continued working part-time until retiring at age 80.
Before he was diagnosed with his illness, he enjoyed dancing, playing billiards, and taking road trips to Las Vegas. He was also a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Salvador Aguilar and Esabel Ramirez Aguilar; and his siblings, Salvador (Sal) Aguilar, Eugenio Aguilar, and Lucia A. Sanchez.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Dominga O. Aguilar; his son, Gilbert S. Aguilar Jr.; his stepson, Peter O. Gomez; his stepdaughter, Sandra A. Boone; his step granddaughter, Amanda M. Boone; and his siblings, Juan Aguilar, Tomas (Tom) Aguilar, Gloria Gonzalez, and Lupe Aguilar.
The visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino, 226 Cupples Rd., San Antonio, TX 78237, with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m.
The Funeral Procession will depart on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of the Resurrection at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 1515 Saltillo St., San Antonio, TX 78207. Interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery II, 746 Castroville Rd., San Antonio, TX 78237.
