Born in San Antonio, Texas on December 16, 1950, to Jesse G. and Alice Cantu, Gilbert led a life that was marked by dedication and love.
Gilbert was a hardworking man that dedicated many years of his professional life to HEB and concluded his career with a retirement from USAA.
Gilbert married the love of his life, and they were blessed with 51 years of marriage. Together they raised two sons, Chris and Adrian. Above all, he was a family man who cherished spending time with his loved ones. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother he was known throughout his life for his humor and love of laughter.
In his personal life, Gilbert was an avid fan of the Cowboys and Spurs, reflecting his love for sports. He enjoyed traveling and exploring new places. Gilbert also enjoyed listening to music and watching movies.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Jesse L. Cantu. Gilbert is survived by his loving wife Rachel Cantu; sons Chris Cantu (Monica) and Adrian Cantu (Ozelle); grandchildren, Isabella, Elijah, Adrian James, Matthew, and Josiah; brother Ruben Cantu (Lydia); sister Diana Marconi (Tom); brother-in-law, Tony Martinez (Chris); sister-in-law Hilda Cantu and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation on Monday July 28, 2025, from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
