Gilbert proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam era. He was a warm, giving and wonderful man and will always be remembered for his bigger than life personality.
He had a passion for cooking and was known for his fabulous BBQ and of course, his infamous potato salad. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.
He was a life time, active member of Holy Name Catholic Church. Gilbert was a person who, through his volunteerism, contributed significantly to his community.
He was a passionate sports fan and exhibited great pleasure in his Texas Longhorn team, the Dallas Cowboys and of course, his San Antonio SPURS.
We thank him for being a wonderful husband, father, loving grandfather, uncle and friend that anyone could have.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Abe and brother in-law Bill.
He is survived by his loving wife, of 29 years, Lucy; children, grandchildren and numerous other family and friends.
The family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and caring during this time in our lives.
Additionally, the Cruz family would like to express their gratitude to Gilbert's family, friends and care givers for all their unconditional support throughout his journey.
