He was born in Eagle Pass, TX. In 1944, he married Christina Galan in Eagle Pass. He served in the U.S. Air Force for five years and retired from Kelly Air Force Base after thirty years of civil service. A talented handyman, he enjoyed making bird houses and feeders.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Christina Gonzalez; daughters, Mary Elizabeth Austad and husband Steve, and Linda Hartman and husband Jim; son, Gilbert G. Gonzalez, Jr. and wife Andrea; grandchildren, Lisa Marie Garcia and husband Mike, Ray Austad, David Hartman, Kevin C. Hartman and wife Krista, Karissa Gonzalez, and Jonathan; and three great-granddaughters, Gabriella Kristina Garcia, Gillian Garcia and Nia Hartman.
