He was born August 25, 1918 in St. Louis, Missouri. Gilbert was a firefighter in St. Louis, MO for 26 years.
He served in WWII in the Army then later in the Naval Reserves and had recently moved to San Antonio to be closer to his family.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Siener.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Heller; sons, Richard Heller and wife, Carol of Atlanta, Georgia, and John Heller and wife, Bernadette, of San Antonio; grandchildren, Brooke and Jennifer Heller, Michelle Staley and husband, Shane and Matthew Anzek; great granddaughters, Abigail Anzek and Charlotte Staley; sisters, Mathilda Witte and Lorraine Buck, as well as his dear uncle and cousins.
