

Gil was born in Emporia, Kansas to Marion Ernest and Mary Helen Lomax on December 8, 1936. He graduated from Raytown High School (Missouri) in 1954, enlisting in the Air Force two years later. His 25 yr. career in the USAF took him from boot camp to OTS. He was a Vietnam War veteran and earned numerous medals and awards during his military career. After retirement, Gil earned a Master's Degree from the University of Texas in San Antonio. He was an avid traveler (loved cruises), a member of both the American Bowling Congress and the Texas State Bowling Association, photographer and builder of models and dioramas, especially military aircraft and tanks.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his infant son, Gilbert "Sonny" E. Lomax, Jr., Father Marion Ernest Lomax and Mother Mary Helen Lomax.
Gil is survived by his wife Estela Gonzales-Lomax, sons; Lionel E. Lomax and partner Ted J. Gµidry of Houma, LA., Kirk A. Lomax of Jackson, MS, Gerald R. Lomax of Long Beach, MS, grand daughter Rhiannon "Dixie" Lomax of Long Beach, MS; brother M. Clayton "Joe" Lomax of Hempstead, TX and sister Helen Louise "Sue" Lomax of Alexandria, VA., numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
A committal service for Gilbert will be held Monday, July 29, 2024 from 10:15 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209 with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests contributing to a Veterans organization, your favorite charity or planting trees in Gil's honor.
