

Gilbert A. Marin, born on January 24, 1943, passed away peacefully in his home on May 2, 2026, at the age of 83. A devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, proud veteran, and loyal friend, Gilbert leaves behind a legacy of strength, laughter, and unwavering love for his family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing him.
Gilbert proudly served his country with honor, giving four years of active service in the United States Army and two additional years in the reserves. After his military service, he continued his hardworking and dedicated career at Kelly Air Force Base. His life was a reflection of commitment, perseverance, and quiet strength, qualities that inspired those around him every day.
Beyond his work, Gilbert truly cherished life’s simple and meaningful moments. He loved dancing, barbecuing, and gathering with the people he loved most. Whether sharing stories, music, laughter, or a meal, Gilbert had a way of making every moment feel special. His greatest joy was his family, who meant everything to him.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, Herminia and Baltazar Marin, and by his brothers, Adolpho Marin and Alfred Marin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Olivia Diaz Marin; his sons, Gilbert Marin Jr., wife Dolores, and Anthony Marin, wife Jessica; and his daughter, Evonne Marin. He also leaves behind 12 grandsons and 1 granddaughter; 12 great grandchildren; and sisters Maria Sanchez, Alicia Arriaga, and Genevieve Mata. Each carrying forward a piece of his spirit, wisdom, and love. Gilbert’s presence will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, in the stories they share, and in the countless memories they will forever hold close.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home on May 27, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John Berchmans Catholic Church on May 28, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
Committal services with military honors will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Shelter 2, on May 28, 2026, from 11:15 a.m. to 11:20 a.m.
