Gilbert Vasquez Jr, 76, passed peacefully into the loving arms of Our Lord on May 17, 2024, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Gilbert, SFC (Ret), served his country with distinction in the United States Army, including a tour in Vietnam.
Whether you called him Gilbert, Dad, Junior, or Grumpy Grandpa, he held a special place in everyone's heart. Though he might not have expressed his feelings directly, his teasing or challenging sense of humor was a sign of his love and affection. Our dad was devoted to his family and had high expectations. He instilled in us the importance of educational achievement and work ethic.
Gilbert took great pride in his work as a mason by contributing his skills and craftsmanship to many homes, buildings and projects in the community. He was known for perfecting his craft, meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality. He left a lasting legacy of beautifully crafted stonework throughout San Antonio and surrounding cities.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Rosemary Vasquez; his children: Martha Vasquez (John), Gilbert Vasquez (Noemi), Frank Vasquez (Denise) and Josie Vasquez; his step-children: Leif Benavides (Miranda), Eric Benavides (Michele), Manuel Benavides (Catherine), Zechariah Benavides (Vanessa); his step daughter-in law: Josie Benavides; his siblings: Virginia Cardenas (Albert), Josie Benavides, Margaret Vasquez, Salvador Vasquez (Yolanda) and Sandra Vasquez; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gilberto and Anna Maria Vasquez, and his stepson, Aaron Benavides.
The family would like to express their heart-felt gratitude to his caregiver, Clinton as well as to the entire staff at Senior Path Specialists and Holy Savior Hospice for their compassionate care in his journey to heaven.
