Gilberto "Gil" F. Negrete passed away on November 29,2021 at the age of 75, in San Antonio, TX. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Gil came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
Gil was born on November 24,1946 in Laredo, TX. After graduating a proud Tiger from Martin High School in 1966, Gil enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served 24 years, including a few tours in Vietnam and retired as a Master Sergeant. After retirement from the military, Gil spent many years officiating High School sporting events as well as working as an usher for the San Antonio Spurs.
While in the Air Force, he met the love of his life Eloisa which he was married to for 51 years. Gil is survived by his wife Eloisa, son Mario (wife Kitty); daughter Marisa (husband Carlos); son Miguel (wife Jessica); 9 grandchildren Miguel, Carlos Jr, Adrian, Joey, Julian, Lily, Avery, Carlo and Angelo; 2 great grandsons Carlos III and Keyson; sisters Teresa, Irene, Oralia, Cleotilde and brother Jorge and Carlos; and his beloved dog Zoey.
Gils love for all things sport and having been an official for many years meant that he enjoyed spending many nights on the couch or at the stadium watching games. It also meant that he could call a foul before the referees flag left his hand. He had a great sense of humor and had a story to tell about every topic. His love for slot machines also brought him to the casino on many occasions. Gil lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed every minute God gave him on this earth. The love he had for his family was second to none except for maybe lemon meringue pie. His home was always filled with joy and laughter. He will be greatly missed by everyone.
