Glenn Edward Turpin of San Antonio, Texas passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the age of 81. After several months of declining health, Glenn died peacefully with his beloved daughters, Glenda Friesenhahn and Mary May, by his side.
Glenn was born in Nancy, Kentucky on April 16, 1939, to Othel “Pete” Turpin and Thelma Margaret Garner. He had 12 brothers and sisters. Glen helped on his family’s small farm in rural Kentucky and did small jobs to earn money. His work ethic and desire to help his family, led to him moving to San Antonio, Texas, at age 19, to join his brother in the used car business. In 1961, he married the love of his life Mary “Allene” Dove. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in February. One of their favorite past times was going to the casino. It always brought lots of laughs and good memories.
Glenn was so proud of his daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He had a compassion heart and unconditional love for his family. Glenn was a kind and generous man who never knew a stranger, always available any time of day or night and willing to help a friend in need. In 1963, he ventured out on his own and started Turpin Auto Sales, his passion for more than 58 years. It was more than a used car busines, it was a family. Many people stopped by to chat, play dominos, or enjoy the massive Coca Cola Collection he had collected over the years.
Glenn will be forever remembered in our hearts and memories, wearing his cowboy boots (we are sure he had over a 100 pair), smiling, and enjoying life. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Mary “Allene” Turpin, who met her Lord and Savior six days before; brothers, Curtis, Eugene, Ervin, Murrel, Lowell; and sister, Dorsie.
He is survived by his children, Glenda (Thomas) Friesenhahn and Mary Turpin May; grandchildren, Tai Friesenhahn (Archie), Danielle Pontious, Thomas “TW” Friesenhahn, Jack (Casey) May, Brandon May; great-grandchildren, Dreyson, Jackson, Branson, Cole; sisters, Mary Ann (Ron), Gladys, Peggy; brothers, Jesse (Ruth Ann), Larry (Phyllis), Othel (Tracey); and numerous nieces and nephews.
