Gloria Eliza Cortez, born on April 16, 1939 in La Vernia, Texas to parents Serapio and Hilaria Rodriguez, went to be with our Lord and Savior on November 23, 2022 at the age of 83, preceded in death by her parents and brother Bobby Rodriguez. Gloria is survived by her husband, Tony Cortez, children, Sandra Beardsley (Scott), Toma Cortez (Carla), Belinda Nadalin (Stephen), grandchildren; Eric Shields (Therese), David Wesley Rodriguez (Hannah), Alison Beardsley, great grandchildren Avah and Micah, brothers, Joe Rodriguez, Sr., David Rodriguez, and sisters, Candida Jakobeit (David), Marta Swonson, Yolanda English (Bob) and Alicia King (Philip).
Gloria grew up in San Antonio where she was raised and met and married her life-long partner, husband and friend Tony Cortez in 1959. Tony and Gloria were married 63 years and lovingly raised three children; Sandra, Anthony and Belinda.
Gloria’s banking career started at Frost National Bank in 1977 where she achieved Assistant Vice-President and retired in 2001 after 24 years of service. She was a loyal and dedicated employee where she met many of her current long-time friends for life.
Gloria and Tony started attending Cornerstone Church in 1990 where they have been faithful members to this day. Following retirement Gloria relished her time with Cornerstone’s Embraced ladies bible study where she met fellow Christians and friends that she cherished. Gloria always looked forward to her monthly luncheons and annual “Big Chill” getaways with her dear siblings and their spouses. She also made time for her extended family: nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers in-law for day or week-long road trips, lunches and dinners.
Always the business woman as CEO and CFO of the House of Cortez, she budgeted, saved and planned for some R&R time to spend with her husband, children and grandchildren traveling abroad to the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and all across North America.
Gloria always had a love and passion for creating with her hands. Early in her young life she learned how to crochet, embroider and sew. In the midst of her banking career she took classes to learn about semi-precious stones, jewelry design, watercolor and pencil drawing. She also enjoyed art galleries, local art shows, musicals, theater performances, and symphony orchestras. Most of all Gloria loved Christ her Lord, her family and her country.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
