Gode Obledo Roth was born on September 15, 1923 in San Antonio, and she passed away July 27, 2021 in San Antonio at the age of 97. Gode was preceded in death by the love of her life, Bobby Smith Roth (they were married 65 years); her parents Jesus and Concepcion Obledo; her granddaughter Amanda Ferman, and ten brothers and sisters. Gode is survived by four daughters: Gode Jane Bergmann (Patrick), Beverly Susan Soyars (Lloyd), Barbara Permilla Roth, Rebecca Eileen Autry and one son David H.O. Roth (Rachelle). Gode is also survived by seven granddaughters: Cristina Kilcher, Jessica Browning, Kate Welder, Kim Cantrell, Megan Soyars, Lauren Weinkrantz, and Ashlyn Roth; four grandsons, Robert Ferman, Aaron Weinkrantz, Erwin Soyars, and Jacob Roth; three great granddaughters, three great grandsons, two sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gode graduated from Fox Tech Vocational and Technical High School in San Antonio, Texas. She then attended and graduated from Santa Rosa Incarnate Word College School of Nursing with an RN degree. She also attended The University of Minnesota School of Nursing. After that, she entered the United States Army as a second lieutenant where she put her skills to work serving her country.
Gode had been active all her life in community affairs: she donated her time and money to Mission Road Ministries; she was co-founder of the Hispanic Republican Women Organization, where she served one year as parliamentarian and president from 1992-1993; she was a former member of The League of Women Voters, The Registered Nurses Club of Fort Sam Houston where she was treasurer, secretary and then vice president, and The Ladies of the Ribbon where she served four years as secretary and four years as treasurer.
Until her passing, she was an active member of the Retired Officers Wives and Widows Club of Fort Sam Houston where she served as a chaplain for 2 years and vice-president for one year. She was a lifelong member of the Santa Rosa School of Nursing Alumnae where she served four years as vice president and two years as secretary. She was a member of the Lone Star Republican Women, and a life time member of St. David’s Episcopal Church.
Gode loved to travel which she did extensively with her husband, to have lively conversations about current events, and to educate herself by being an avid reader.
To all who knew her, she was a very beautiful, very intelligent, very witty and a very fun-loving person. She could spark life into any situation.
Visitation will take place Monday August 9, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place Tuesday August 10, 2021 at 10:00 at St. David’s Episcopal Church 1300 Wiltshire, San Antonio, Texas 78209 with a reception to follow at the church.
