

Gordon “Bubba” Swan, age 71, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas after a long illness. Bubba was born on September 5, 1951, in San Antonio, to his parents Julia Lawson Swan and Thomas Alden Swan.
Bubba graduated from Edison High School in 1969. He went on to excel in a variety of fields. He worked in the hotel industry in places such as Napa Valley, the greater Phoenix area, and Grand Cayman Island. Bubba switched careers and became a farmer in Lindsborg, Kansas for many years and worked with AmeriCorps, a volunteer-based community program established by the Clinton administration. During this time, he also worked as a Nutrition Assistant at Kansas State University.
Bubba returned to Texas and began a new occupation in the medical field, working for many years in Human Resources at the Nix Hospital where he was born. When the Nix System closed due to changes in the hospital and medical practice field, he worked as a benefits Administrator for the Center for Health Care services and subsequently as an Independent Health insurance agent, specializing in Medicare Advantage plans. Reluctantly, Bubba retired in 2022 due to chronic health issues.
Bubba was a classic car enthusiast, avid fisherman and was active in the San Antonio Prime Timers organization until his death.
He had a great interest in genealogy and family history, tracing his roots back to Scotland and Great Britain.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Bubba is survived by his sister, Susan “Suzy” Vorpahl; his brother, John “Tom” Swan; numerous nieces and nephews; and many good friends.
At Bubba’s request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation at pulmonaryfibrosis.org.
