
G. R. "Bob" Monroe, loving husband, dedicated father, grandfather, brother, real estate developer, savings and loan executive, WWII Veteran, Optimist, antique hunter, history buff, avid reader, author, and puppeteer went to be with the Lord, Friday, December 3, 2004. Bob was 85 years young, was known for his humor, his incredible memory, faithfulness, strong sense of duty, and his children's stories. Bob will be greatly missed.
Bob was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma, lived in Wichita, Kansas for 69 years, graduated from Wichita's North High School in 1937, attended Friends University and was a member of Wichita's West Side Baptist Church from 1920 to 1990. Bob and his wife retired to San Antonio in 1988 and became members of Castle Hills First Baptist Church.
George Robert Monroe is survived by his lifelong love and dear wife of 62 years, Floriene Allen Monroe; son, David Allen Monroe; three grandchildren; Adam Alexander Monroe, Dawn Tracey Monroe and Katherine Anne Monroe, all of San Antonio. Bob has two surviving sisters; Betty Monroe Hummel of Bellevue, WA., and Patsy Monroe Covey of Wichita, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Francis Monroe and Ruby Comstock Monroe; a sister, Mary Monroe Dicke; a sister, Frances Monroe; and brother, Edwin Monroe.
