Grace Valdine (Blaylock) Hogans

Our beloved Grace Valdine (Blaylock) Hogans, born on January 10, 1947 in Albany, Georgia was called home to our Lord on Sunday, July 24, 2016. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Grace Blaylock; siblings, Ms. Jacquline James, Ms. Sheila Danner and Mr. Brunard Blaylock. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dr. (COL-Ret.) William R. Hogans, III; sister, Ms. Audrey Tate; brother, Mr. Lisbon Blaylock; children, Ms. Angela Blaylock, LTC (Ret.) William R. Hogans IV, and spouse, Ms. Joy Hogans, Ms. Adrienne Hogans, Maj (Ret.) Elliott Hogans and spouse Ms. Zita Hogans, Mr. Byron Hogans, Capt. Michael Hogans; grandchildren, Gabrielle Blaylock, William Hogans V, Alexis Ellerbe, Elliott Hogans, Jr., Jaide Hogans, Nicholas Hogans, plus numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

Grace enjoyed her family and instilled in them a tremendous value system and lots of love. As she followed her husband around during his 30 years of service she enjoyed teaching kindergartners and taught in the various school systems at each assignment- Department of Dependent Schools in Germany and the Republic of Korea; Elementary school in Petersburg, VA, Liberty County School System in Hinesville, GA and Clover Park School System in Washington State. She also enjoyed the camaraderie of her sorority sisters in the Graduate Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and was a Diamond Life Member of the Sorority. She was a member of the Tacoma Links and remained a member of that chapter after moving to San Antonio, Texas. Grace was an honorary member of the United States Army Medical Department Regiment and Phi Delta Kappa professional fraternity in Education. She was the embodiment of strength and love, who worked hard to give her family a loving home, an outstanding education and a strong faith in God.
