

With her children near by, Grace Elizabeth Mohler LaMontagne ascended into the arms of Our Savior, Jesus Christ on September 5, 2013 after a prolonged and courageous battle with dementia. Betty, as she was affectionately known, was born July 8, 1925 in Mexico City of American parents: Jacob Frank Mohler and Florence Orris Mohler. She attended the American School in Mexico City through the eigth grade and completed her high school education at St. Mary's Hall in San Antonio, Texas. Afterwards, during the WWII, she attended Stephens College in Missouri and returned after the War to Mexico City where she began working with Braniff Airlines as a flight attendent. She met Maurice LaMontagne, a young Navy Lieutenant on a blind date and soon afterwards were engaged and married in 1947 in San Antonio's Christ Episcopal Church. Working for GE took them first to Schenectady, New York, where their first child was born. They moved to Monterrey, Mexico in 1948 where they lived for over 40 years raising their young family of four children. Betty was immersed in various activities with the Union Church, as a teacher at the Pan American Institute of Monterrey, and in various local American/Mexican Community Activities. Her favorite hobbies included playing bridge with her weekly foursome and playing golf with Maurice on most weekends. Betty was a child dancer and had planned a career in Music Theatre when she graduated from St. Mary’s Hall but a serious car accident which damaged her knee prevented her from pursuing her dancing career.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Jacob Frank and Florence Orris Mohler, her husband Maurice Rangel LaMontagne, daughter Alice Anne LaMontagne, great-grandchild Marlowe Katherine. She is survived by her children Robert Weir LaMontagne and wife Kristi, Linda LaMontagne and Maurice Edward LaMontagne and wife Jeanne; grandchildren Elise, Alexandra, Robb, Lauren, Adam, Allison, Seth, Maurice,Jr., Gregory; great-grandchildren Braden, Huston, Landon, Elliot, Emery, Savanah, MacPherson, Mabyn, Lillie Jeanne, Atlee, Ethan, Austin. Betty will be sorely missed by her family and all those she touched in a special way.
A Memorial service will be Friday, September 13, 2013 at 10:00AM at Christ Episcopal Church, 510 Belknap, San Antonio, Texas. Internment will be at Sunset Memorial Park 1701 Austin Highway following a reception to be held at the church immediately after service.
