It is always with a heavy heart when you discover a family member of a long ago friend passes away. Your are in my thoughts.

 I am so sorry to hear your mother passed away. I just went outside, scanned the sky for God and found the most beautiful peach/pink patch of clouds and said a prayer for your mother. He got it. I know how close you are to your family, as you've always made mention of them.

Although we were introduced to"Ninny" through your wedding events, she gave off such warmth and the feeling of such a wonderful spirit inside. As uncanny as it may sound, you felt all the nice things that make up a grandma just in meeting her. We have heard how close you were to her, Alan, and that makes such an unexpected passing even harder to cope. As difficult as it is now, just cling to those feelings and memories of her that remain forever in your heart. She will be there whenever you need her. Lauren, we understand that in the short time you've known Ninny, that she has carved out a place in your heart which will make this a difficult time. With 50+ years of memories, where to begin. Grace was part of my "growing-up" years and my parents remain dear, dear friends!Grace knew how to be a beautiul, loving friend and was one to my parents every day of her life. One of my favorite memories is at the house in Corpus. What fun we had as families. Grace in the kitchen with a pot bigger than she was, full of boiling water ready for crabs..a few escaped..we screamed,laughed and spent some time standing on the chairs. So many memories...I will always smile when I think of Grace.

Deepest sympathies to the Spalten family. My parents, Maurice and Clarice Rex, were friends of the Spaltens. I recall seeing Grace at daily Mass at St. Anthony's Shrine very often. She was always so very cheerful and friendly. Again, my sympathies to the Spalten family.
