Graceann was such a loving and caring person. Whenever we say her she always made us feel cared for. She doted on our sons Charles and Edward and we enjoyed seeing her at Club Giraud every Easter season and of course with the Spurs were doing well!

I am very saddened to learn of the sudden loss of our DAR sister. She was a lovely, sweet, soft spoken elegant lady. It wan't that long ago at our meeting on the 13th that she was sharing with us how her grandfather told her mother that the Armistis Day was for her. We will miss her very much. Linna Prystash

Ken-to you and your entire family-my deepest sympathies. I will always have a picture of your mother...she is the one who handed me my high school diploma class of 1970-Highlands High. She really loved the Theatre Productions you and I were in.

Dearest Durr and Nielsen Families: It is with great sadness that we learned of Graceann's passing. Graceann was one of the outstanding leaders in education and service to our community. 
She was always an inspiration to us in her various roles, but especially in her service as President of the San Antonio Independent School District Board of Trustees. She will be missed! And she will be remembered! Our love and prayers are with you all! We have been out of town and are unable to make the 2 p.m. service today. I thank God for Graceann and the love and acceptance she expresed to me as her pastor at Highland Terrace in 1992-4. She and Bob were most gracious - which is, as was stated today at the service- her name and her spiritual life.

When I think of Graceann, the word indomitable immediately comes to mind. Her spirit was never subdued, even during difficult circumstances. Always positive, she kept a smile on her face and warmth in her tone. She made every holiday a special occasion, decorating her home and dressing accordingly. Last Fourth of July she wore her traditional red, white and blue combo with matching hat. No one could forget the significance of each holiday when Graceann was around! But even with all that, what I'll remember most will be the love and pride she held for her family. Clearly, the time she spent with them was what she cherished most. We will miss her; she was a grandmother to Cristina and a good friend to Gustavo and me.

I don't know if you are aware of what a wonderful mentor your mother was to the women who worked with her in PTA. As an Hispanic parent involved in PTA, my mother Lidia Ramirez and other women like her at the time were accepted and mentored by your mother. They learned more about parliamentary procedure and organization through their work with her. She was a wonderful friend to these women, and I remember stories of lively lunches at the PanAmerican restaurant after PTA District meetings. This was probably the last generation of mothers who didn't have to work outside the home and could devote themselves so fully to such wonderful causes as PTA. I just wanted to share that with you. My deepest sympathies to you and to your famiy.

Please accept our condolences, for your mom was good to us. She gave us the gifts of love, joy and respect everyday by teaching us to become southern ladies. We will miss her deeply, but we know that now she and Mr. Durr are together and someday we will be all together again.

Gordon, I'm so sorry to hear of your mother's death. I know you must be missing her terribly. May you find peace and comfort in your memories of her.

Graceann was always most gracious and helpful. She was a graduate of Southwestern University, and we both knew her there. She remained a good friend and we always treasured her friendship. Love to the family.

My big memory of Graceann is our being the first members of Highland Terrace when we were the first MYF there. We had some great after glows. Then Graceann had the first wedding there. Mine was the second.

Kenny, Gordon, and families,

 The true "matriarch" of our family has now passed - praising her life as she left - I'm sure. And, what a life it was! Sorry we can't be at the memorial service, but our thoughts are with you and your families.

Graceann was a wonderful person and friend. She was loved by many and she loved many. I first knew her sister, Merry, and met Graceann thru Merry. Gordon, Kenny and family: I saw the newspaper article that Graceann had passed last Friday. Even though I have not seen her in a very long time I have fond memories of her from when we were younger on the south side. Your mother was a graceous, lovely woman. I know she is proud of you all. Kenny and Gordon, Growing up on Glad Drive, your Mom was always the matriarch of the neighborhood for skinned knees and settling arguments. I had a very long conversation with her two Septembers ago at my mom's memorial service as we recalled those precious years growing up. I will always love your mom for the tender mercies she extended to me and Ronny growing up with you two. Grace Ann was such an appropriate name for her because she was the pure personification of the Lord's grace for all his children. She had the biggest heart I ever knew and was so very proud of you both. My prayers and thoughts are with you today and always - she has left a wonderful legacy to the world through you two. May the Lord of Peace welcome her into His loving arms and just is her reward. May she rest in peace as we will soon join her and she and your Dad, Bob, will be there waiting for us when we enter into the Kingdom. Grace Ann - the Lord has blessed you exceedingly and abundantly above all things. Thank you for your love and smiles that you have given me throughout my life. I've known Graceann for 30 years and she is probably the only person I've known for that length of time who I have never seen angry. There was such a peacefulness and gentleness about her that had a way of embracing you and making your own troubles and frustrations melt away. I'll miss seeing her this Thanksgiving, but I'm very grateful that she's now home with Bob.

Grace Ann's loving presence in my chidhood is one of my treasured memories. Gordon and Kenny were like brothers to us Rutledge kids and Grace Ann was one of my "Second Mothers". I was thrilled to be able to visit with her at Dorothy's memorial. Much Love, Jane

Graceann was nothing but a sweet-natured southern woman, who loved and took care of anyone that would let her. Although she was not my blood relative she sure made me feel like one, as I imagine she made every person she ever met feel. I had the pleasure of seeing her every holiday where she would call me "darlin", compliment my eyes and ask me how I was doing. I always looked forward to seeing her and I am truly saddened that such a beautiful and loving woman is no longer with us. However, there is no doubt in my mind that she will spend the rest of eternity in heaven doing what she does best; loving and taking care of her family and friends.
