

The family of Grafton “Mike” Hunt announces his passing October 4, 2024, in Boerne, Texas. He was 84. He was born in Houston, Texas, the son of Ann Mae Duncan and Grafton Wortham Hunt. Mike died comfortably following a challenging few years, where he was cared for by the attentive staff at Franklin Park Boerne.
Mike had a fulfilling career as a Petroleum Engineer, starting in 1966 as a Drilling Engineer with Shell Oil Company in New Orleans. Assignments took him to Mississippi, South Louisiana and Offshore Louisiana. Mike then joined Coastal States Gas Corporation. During his 8 years there he began as a Petroleum Engineer for the Louisiana District in Lafayette, Louisiana and rose after holding various positions to Superintendent of Foreign Operations in Houston, with responsibility for the drilling and production of oil and gas wells in Indonesia and Syria.
In 1978 he took the position of Manager of Drilling and Production Operations for Bright and Co., San Antonio. Mike was responsible for the drilling and production of oil and gas wells in South Texas, West Texas, New Mexico and the Rocky Mountains.
He is a 1961 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1962. He was in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966, a Captain in the position of Weapons Controller.
Mike is survived by his sister Nancy Hunt Hudgins, Houston and her daughter Rachel Hudgins, Jersey City, New Jersey. Their older sister Leta Virginia Hunt Perkins died in 2005, and is survived by her three children, Bill Perkins and wife Patty, LaRue, Texas, Ann Perkins Jack and husband Karl, Kerrville, and Mike Perkins and wife Jean, Plano.
Mike’s care in his last difficult years was lovingly managed by his niece Ann Jack. Her attention to his every need made life easier for him, especially near the end when he was cared for by New Century Hospice.
Mike requested that no service be held. His cremated remains will be laid to rest in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. Friends are invited to share a memory on the tribute wall at PorterLoring.com
