He was raised in South Texas, A 1974 graduate of South San Antonio High School, Greg was an award-winning saxophone player whose love of music remained with him throughout his life. As the years passed, he grew to deeply love and appreciate jazz music, finding comfort and meaning in its rhythm and soul he also loved classic rock and Latin music
Greg proudly served in the United States Army in the Hell on Wheels 2nd division before earning a bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He believed in responsibility, perseverance, and doing what was right—values he lived out quietly and consistently.
He had a huge passion for plants later on in life, becoming a Master Gardener, finding peace in working the soil and caring for plants. He began his own business called Garcia Gardens center, where he grew and sold plants. He also cherished time spent out at “the ranch,” where he enjoyed the solitude, the open land, spending time with his “old man” and the cows. Those quiet moments reflected who Greg truly was—grounded, thoughtful, and content with life’s simple pleasures.
Greg was the kind of man you could call if your car broke down on the highway, and he would show up without hesitation to help. That dependable spirit defined him just as much as any title or accomplishment. He had a big heart and lots of compassion for others. He would give you the jacket off his back if he saw you needed it. He had a great sense of humor, even in the final moments of his life.
Above all, Greg was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his loving wife, Carmen M. Garcia, and his daughters, Abigail Garcia, and Gabriela Garcia, and his eldest daughter Erica Garcia who were the pride and joy of his life.
