At her home, surrounded by family, Guadalupe C. Valdez age 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday July 25, 2020 on what would have been her 66th wedding anniversary. In her final days, mom asked for a new dress and shoes so she could go dancing; little did we know she’d be dancing with our father, her one true love in heaven, soon thereafter.

Guadalupe is preceded in death by her husband Trinidad Valdez Jr, daughter Josie Valdez, parents Geronimo and Fidela Garcia Castillo, and brother Jerry Castillo.

Guadalupe is survived by her children: Trinidad Valdez III and wife Rebecca, Juanita Valdez, Grace Valdez-Soria and husband Mike, Manuel Valdez and wife Sonia, Robert Valdez, Edward Valdez and wife Janie, and Michael A. Valdez; sisters Dolores Garcia and Julia Zuniga; brothers Simon Castillo and Joe Castillo; 13 grandchildren Stephanie Marie Smith and husband Stephen, Josephine Grace Valdez-Meagley and husband Mark, Angelica Glaze and husband Alan, Kimberly Marie Valdez-Soria and fiancé Israel, Manuel Valdez Jr, Eric Rene Valdez, Matthew Valdez, Edward Valdez Jr and wife Laura, Antoinette Nicole Valdez and fiancé Justin, Laura Christine Valdez, Veronica Guadalupe Valdez, Ryan Trinidad Valdez, Alyssa Erin Valdez as well as 12 great grandchildren, numerous relatives and friends.

Our mom was a lifelong parishioner of San Fernando Cathedral, and would faithfully attend Sunday morning mass with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed going out for breakfast following mass, at one of her favorite restaurants; Lisa’s. Mom loved to cook when she was able to, and especially looked forward to the holidays as her home was a frequent gathering place for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.

She was a loving mother and an amazing grandmother who had a hand in raising each of her grandchildren. Grandma, or “Gma”, as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren, will be greatly missed. Her love, smile, and joyful spirit will live in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 beginning at 6:00 P.M. with a rosary service for Guadalupe at 7:00. PM. The funeral procession will depart the funeral home on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 9:15 AM for a 10:00 AM mass at The San Fernando Cathedral, with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

I wish to offer my heartfelt condolences to Lupita’s children and grandchildren on their tremendous loss. I will always remember her beautiful smile and gracious personality. I admire how she raised her children after she became a widow at such a young age. Her husband Trini was my first cousin on the Casso side of the family. Although I am not able to be with y’all for her service, I will join you from a distance at the time in prayer 🙏 May her soul Rest In Peace ❤️

To all the Valdez Family, My husband Manuel is taking this sad news really hard, we had appointments we had to attend this afternoon, and I could tell Manuel was just not himself and was not able to complete his task.
Tia Lupita was very special to Manuel & I, we are so sorry we didn’t read the post on FB with enough time to go see Tia.
The love Tia Lupita and Tio Trini shared for each; there was no doubt that Tio Trini was waiting for his lovely wife at the Golden Gate in Heaven; what a beautiful way to celebrate their “66th” wedding anniversary.
🌿🌷R.I.P. Mr & Mrs Valdez🌷🌿
Our Condolences to you and all the Valdez Families, sending prayers.

To my beautiful mother,
Mom I want to thank you for all the beautiful memories you have left our family with. I thank God for having blessed our family with such a loving mother ,grandmother ,great grandmother and friend who always shared her love and kindness with others. Thank you for raising our family to love and care for one another and to be kind towards others. In my eyes you are truly an angel who was sent down from heaven and now has been called back. We will miss you dearly and you will forever be in our thoughts and prayers. Happy anniversary to you and dad , My guardian angels Who I know will be watching over us! I will always love you and May the glory of God always be with you!

My Angel

An angel lived among us,
A gift from God above.
She showered us with kindness
And shared with us her love.
She cherished every moment
With the man who was her life;
Walking hand in hand together,
Facing life with all its strife.
She loved her children dearly,
Each one a different way,
Nestled close within her heart.
Though, now, she’s far away.
She’s gone to live with Jesus.
But, she’s here with us, today,
Smiling down on every one of us,
And telling us she’s O.K

Beautiful grandma, you’re finally reunited with grandpa! I know he missed you sooo much, I can only imagine how he felt to be reunited with you again.
You were one of the strongest, most compassionate and loving women in my life and you will be missed by all of us. Please continue to watch over us & although you may not physically be here, we feel you all around us everyday. I haven’t been able to wrap my brain around the fact that you’ll never see me walk down the aisle or meet my future children but, I know you’ll have the best seat in the house. I will make sure to carry on your legacy and our special memories forever. I’ll miss your laughter, your smile, your love and your stories! I hope there is plenty of caramel frappes, cabrito & banana nut bread in heaven. I will love you always- your granddaughter Antoinette ❤️

Grandma,
I will miss your physical presence and our daily phone calls more than you know! but I can feel you around me and know your watching over our family. I am fortunate to have had a loving and caring grandma like you, and even though I lived so far we still made time to see each other as much as we could. Thank you for loving my babies as much as me! I love you sooo much and will forever cherish our talks 💕 until we meet again💕

Love always S.W.A.K

To my beautiful Tia Lupe,
Mom and I were visiting you at your house that day that you told Gracie you wanted to dance with Tio Trini and she told you to wait so she could go buy you a pretty dress and you nodded yes and then told her “and shoes, too”. I guess you knew in your heart that you’d be with the love of your life soon. You were always an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. You were also a wonderful daughter, sister and aunt. Seeing the pictures on this post made me cry, that’s the you I want to remember forever in my heart. You always made my family and I feel loved and we love you more for that. I will miss hearing the way you would say my name, Rosie. I will miss talking to you about things I was going through and your kind words of advice. I’m so blessed to have had you in my life and I will forever love and keep your memory alive in my heart. Words cannot explain the loss and sadness I feel and my only consolation is that I know that you’re with your Heavenly Father and loved ones. Tio Trini I’m sure was very happy to see his “Lupita” and very proud of the job you did raising my cousins and devoting your life to them and their families. You did GREAT, Tia! I love you so very much, thank you for your love. Rest In Peace, Tia.
All my love, always, Rosie 💖

My Dearest Mom,
My heart aches so much for you, but knowing that you are united with Dad in heaven gives me lots of joy. I want to Thank you for your guidance in being a good mother and wife. I appreciate all of you advice throughout the years. I enjoyed the time we spent together, we have so many wonderful memories, from family dinners, and shopping, to church on Sunday mornings. You always taught us to be faithful to our Catholic beliefs. I'm grateful you were able to meet Yareli and spend some time with her. I hope to be as wonderful of a Grandma to Yareli as you were to your grandchildren. I will forever have you in my heart, and I will always love you. Missing you dearly Mommy.

As a little boy my grandma would always fix me a good breakfast fit for a king she would always make me a small tortilla just for me which made it extra special to me. There was a day we went to fiesta texas and I wanted to ride the Rattler she waited in line with me I had just thought she was keeping me company on the way up the long line I was wrong she actually got in the cart with me and rode the Rattler with me she was a very brave grandma she did anything to put a smile on her grand kids face I will never forget that day or all the good times and memories they will live with me forever especially the days we would spend during Fiesta sitting in front of San Fernando Cathedral or when I was scared she would let me sleep in the bed with my grandfather and her. My grandma was a giving person I will remember the days she would take me outside to feed the birds leftover bread from the loaves that we did not finish now my grandma has gotten her wings and is as free as a bird. Love your first grandson Manuel Valdez Jr and great grandkids
