Sergeant Guy Russell Hardy was born on December 1st, 1956 in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn to the late Sarah Hardy and Johnny Rivera. Guy Hardy passed away on July 8th, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas due to complications with Covid-19. Guy Hardy fought very hard to overcome this illness until the lord brought him home with him to be in peace. He is survived by his daughter Monique Hardy, his older sister Kim Owens, younger sister Simone Hardy, his nieces; Angela Owens and Tameeka Owens-White (Ronald White), his nephews Russell Owens, Hassan Green and countless great nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his sister Anna Hardy. Growing up in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn; Guy was the only boy with three sisters. He always loved and protected his sisters. He graduated from the Automotive High School in Brooklyn before attending Long Island University in 1976. Guy pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity on May 28th in 1980 and graduated that spring with a BS in Political Science. After he graduated from college; Guy enlisted into the United States Air force on November 18th, 1983 where he became a weapon specialist and MP. In 1983, he was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX when he met his future wife Verdell Barnes. They were married at Fort Sam Houston Army Base in December of 1984. On August 21st 1985; they welcomed their beautiful daughter Monique which brought him so much joy because he wanted a baby girl. Guy Hardy served his country for four years and joined the Masonic Brotherhood before being medically discharged on December 22, 1987 due to renal failure complicated by the flu. After being medically discharged from the military; Guy lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed being around his family, traveling the country, poker on a Saturday night and a Sunday afternoon. He grew up loving doo-woop music, classic R&B, anything from Motown and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Guy was an avid New York Giants. He loved his Kappa brothers and was a lifetime member. In March 2016; Guy received a Kidney Transplant in Houston, TX after being on dialysis for 27 years. He was so proud of himself and extremely happy to be able to live a normal life again. In the last four years; Guy continued to live his life to the fullest, without fear, trust in the lord and the love he continued to share with everyone he met. On June 21st, 2020; his daughter took him to the VA emergency room due to him feeling weak and difficulty breathing. Guy was positive with Covid-19 which was complicated by pneumonia. On July 8th at 5:50pm; Guy passed in peace and dignity surrounded by the love and prayers of everyone he touched in his lifetime.
