Gwen began her college education at Stephens College in Columbia, MO. and completed her Bachelor of Education degree at Baylor University in Waco, TX. She had a career in teaching elementary education and later enjoyed her time working for Mark W. White in the State Attorney General’s Office.
Gwen was proud to call Austin her home. She adored her friends, traveled the world, excelled in painting and sculpting works of art, loved taking art classes at Laguna Gloria and at the Elizabet Ney Museum, volunteered at the Austin Settlement Home for Children, and delighted in gardening. She became a Master Gardener and was twice honored for Yard of the Year by the Allendale Neighborhood Association. Gwen also enjoyed entertaining her friends and family in her home. She attended First Baptist Church of Austin and later the Grace Covenant Church of Austin.
Gwen leaves behind a legacy of colorful stories and she will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, Gwen’s family requests that donations be made in her honor to the Austin Settlement Home for Children. Gwen’s family would also like to pass on their heartfelt appreciation to the employees of Morningside Ministries in San Antonio and Boerne, along with Alamo Hospice, for the loving care and devotion they provided our mother.
